THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, April 23: In a public-friendly initiative, the Latehar district police in Jharkhand have introduced safe drinking water facilities across all police stations and outposts to help visitors cope with the intense summer heat.

All 13 police stations and outposts in the district are now offering clean and accessible drinking water to people visiting police premises.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Gaurav said the move is intended to ensure comfort for visitors. “Safe and pure drinking water is available at every police station and outpost. It is meant to provide relief during the harsh summer,” he said.

He also pointed out that women and children, who often visit police stations in cases such as family disputes or marital issues, would benefit from the facility. “Children often accompany their mothers, and access to drinking water becomes a big relief for them,” the SP added.

Mix of Water Coolers and Traditional Solutions

Select police stations, including Garu, Bareysarn, and Mahuadanr, have been equipped with water coolers. In other locations, the police have opted for eco-friendly earthen pitchers, covered with cloth to keep the water cool.

At the Bariyatu police station, the arrangement is more nature-oriented, with two earthen pots placed under a large tree, offering both shade and a seating area for visitors.

Residents Suggest ORS Support

Local residents have welcomed the initiative but suggested adding ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) packets alongside water facilities. They noted that visitors arriving during peak afternoon hours (12 pm to 3 pm) may face dehydration or exhaustion, and ORS could help replenish essential minerals.

They also suggested that such packets could be sourced free of cost from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs or community health centres in the district.
