Daltonganj, April 29: Palamu Deputy Commissioner and Principal District Census Officer Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat has urged residents not to share Aadhaar, PAN, or bank account details during the upcoming Census operations, warning of potential cyber fraud.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Shekhawat clarified that such information is not required during houselisting and house census scheduled from May 16 to June 14, 2026. “Never share Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details during the census. It is not mandated,” he said.
Cyber Fraud Alert
He cautioned that cyber fraudsters may try to exploit the process. “Do not share OTPs. Personal vigilance is essential to stay safe from cyber fraud,” he added.

Census Phases Explained
Shekhawat said the first phase will cover normal and institutional households, while houseless households will be listed later. He assured that authorities will ensure their inclusion.
For the first time, self-enumeration has been introduced in the Census. Households can submit details by answering 33 questions through the official app (se.census.gov.in) between May 1 and May 15. These entries will later be verified by enumerators.
Verify Enumerators
Residents have been advised to confirm the identity of enumerators, who will carry official ID cards with QR codes, to avoid impersonation.
The DC emphasised that maintaining data quality and confidentiality is a priority, with strict safeguards in place to prevent any leakage of personal information.
District Census Officer and Additional Collector Kundan Kumar was also present at the press conference.
