New Delhi, May 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed BJP workers at the party headquarters, celebrating the party’s strong performance in the 2026 Assembly elections, particularly its historic surge in West Bengal. As per trends, the BJP has crossed the halfway mark in Bengal, leading in over 200 seats, signalling a major political shift in the state.

Invoking symbolism and geography, Modi said, “With the victory in Bengal, the lotus is blooming all the way from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar.” He also added, “Along with Ganga, Brahmaputra has also been kind to me,” referring to the party’s strong showing in Assam.

Praise for Party Workers and Voter Participation

Congratulating party workers, the Prime Minister said the victory was the result of grassroots efforts. “Every worker of the BJP, from the grassroots to the leadership, has performed wonders and scripted a new history,” he said.

He also highlighted record voter turnout, especially in West Bengal. “The voter turnout of approximately 93 per cent in Bengal is historic. Women’s participation has been especially high, reflecting the strength of Indian democracy,” Modi noted.

BJP’s Growing Presence Along Ganga Belt

Emphasising the party’s expanding footprint, Modi said the BJP now governs all major states along the Ganga belt, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and now West Bengal.

He also remembered Syama Prasad Mookerjee, stating that the BJP’s victory in Bengal would fulfil his long-standing vision for the state.

Message on Political Violence and Governance

Addressing concerns over political violence in West Bengal, Modi struck a conciliatory tone. “We should not talk about revenge, but about change. Not fear, but the future,” he said.

Outlining priorities, he promised improved safety for women, employment opportunities for youth, and strict action against illegal infiltration. He also announced that the Ayushman Bharat scheme would be approved in the first cabinet meeting.

Assam Hat-Trick, NDA Holds Puducherry

In Assam, the BJP is leading in over 100 of 126 seats, putting it on track for a third consecutive term. Calling it a “monumental moment,” Modi said the people of Assam have once again shown trust in the BJP-led government.

In Puducherry, the NDA is set to retain power, leading in 17 out of 30 seats. Modi credited the alliance’s governance and development agenda for the continued support.

‘End of Communist Rule’ Remark

In a significant political statement, the Prime Minister said that no state in India is now governed by a Communist party. “This is not just a political shift, but a shift in mindset. Today’s India seeks development, stability, and progress,” he said.
