Dhanbad, Dec. 26: Two school-going students were crushed to death while one was seriously injured in a bike-truck collision near Pradhankhanta rail overbridge under Baliapur police station, around 17 km from here, on Tuesday evening.

A Baliapur police station officer said the incident occurred around 3.30 pm. All three students had been riding on a bike. They were going to Baliapur to attend tuition class when their vehicle collided with a truck.

The deceased were identified as Sandip Mahto (16) and Nitesh Mahto (16), residents of Jagdish Sahardar village under Govindpur police station. Their colleague Kuldip Mahto got a severe injury and was admitted to a private hospital.

An eyewitness said the incident occurred when the bike rider tried to overtake the truck. Following the collision, Sandip Mahto died on the spot. Police admitted Nitesh and Kuldip to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), where doctors referred them to a superspeciality hospital.

At a private hospital, Nitesh died during treatment, while the condition of Kuldip Mahto was said to be critical.
