Dhanbad, May 7: Padma Shri awardee and Secretary of Vikas Bharti Bishunpur, Ashok Bhagat, on Tuesday inaugurated a 1.5 MW grid-connected rooftop solar power plant at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) (ISM), Dhanbad.
The solar power plant, located opposite Substation-4 near the Health Centre on the campus, has a generation capacity of 1,500 kilowatts. With the commissioning of the project, a substantial portion of the institute’s electricity requirement will now be met through solar energy.
The initiative is expected to reduce electricity costs and promote the use of clean and sustainable energy on the campus.

Officials said the project was executed as a complete turnkey assignment covering design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the solar power system.

IIT (ISM) focuses on sustainable energy initiatives
The inauguration programme was attended by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Director Prof. Sukumar Mishra, NIT Durgapur Director Prof. Arvind Choubey, the institute’s Deputy Director, Deans, and several other dignitaries.
The institute has been promoting renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure initiatives as part of its long-term environmental and energy management strategy.
