Ranchi, June 23: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jharkhand State Chief Spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo on Tuesday alleged that the Hemant Soren government is attempting to bury the alleged multi-thousand-crore treasury scam by delaying investigations and shielding those responsible.
He claimed that more than two months after the probe was initiated, the state government has limited its action to lower-level functionaries while failing to take action against senior officials allegedly involved in the irregularities.
Delay in Providing Documents Raises Questions
Pratul Shah Deo said that although the state government had recommended a special audit by the Accountant General (AG), the documents sought by the AG’s office have not been provided even after two months.
According to him, the delay raises serious questions about the government’s intent and suggests an attempt to suppress facts related to the alleged scam.
“Failure to provide documents to the Accountant General even after two months indicates a deliberate effort to delay the audit process and prevent the truth from emerging,” he alleged.
Finance Minister’s Statement Cited
The BJP leader referred to a statement by the State Finance Minister, who had reportedly acknowledged that accounts worth nearly ₹10,000 crore could not be reconciled.
Pratul Shah Deo claimed that such an admission pointed to financial irregularities of a significant scale and warranted immediate and stringent action.
He questioned why no treasury official allegedly found prima facie responsible had been removed from service or subjected to disciplinary proceedings so far.
‘Only Small Fish Being Targeted’
The BJP spokesperson alleged that the accounts frozen during the investigation belonged only to individuals occupying relatively insignificant positions, while those allegedly holding influential positions remained outside the scope of action.
He said there was little indication that the investigation report would be submitted anytime soon and accused the government of deliberately prolonging the process.
“After two months, the government is targeting only small fish while shielding the big players,” he alleged.
Questions Raised Over SIT and CID Probe
Pratul Shah Deo said the BJP had questioned the constitution of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the role of the CID team assigned to investigate the matter from the outset.
He also expressed concern that no timeline had been fixed for submission of the investigation report, which, according to him, continued to cast doubts over the credibility of the probe.
Demand for Time-Bound Investigation
The BJP leader asserted that his party would continue to pursue the issue and seek accountability for the alleged misuse of public funds.
He demanded a time-bound investigation into the matter and called for the immediate suspension of officials found prima facie culpable to ensure a fair and impartial probe.
Pratul Shah Deo said the BJP would raise the issue both on the streets and in the legislature until all facts related to the alleged treasury scam are brought to light and accountability is fixed.
