Jamshedpur, August 10: Amid growing student agitation in Ranchi and apprehensions of a possible law-and-order situation, the Jamshedpur district administration has imposed prohibitory orders across the Steel City, restricting public gatherings and group activities.
The restrictions came into effect from midnight on August 10 and will remain in force until further orders, according to an order issued by the district administration.
Under the prohibitory order, gatherings of five or more persons at any place have been prohibited. The administration has also barred processions, demonstrations, protests, dharnas, meetings and other forms of public assembly.
The restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary measure to prevent any escalation of the prevailing situation and to ensure peace and public order across the city.
The order makes it clear that no gathering of five or more people will be permitted in any locality. Besides public meetings and demonstrations, other forms of group activity that could potentially disrupt law and order will also remain under close watch.
The administration said the restrictions are aimed at preventing any attempt to disrupt normal life or create tension in the city amid the ongoing student agitation.
The move assumes significance as the student movement has gathered momentum in Ranchi, prompting authorities in Jamshedpur to adopt a precautionary approach and strengthen security measures.
Private Schools Disperse Students Early
The developing situation also had a direct impact on schools in Jamshedpur on Monday, with several private schools deciding to disperse students earlier than usual as a precautionary measure.
Several schools had already alerted parents through WhatsApp messages about the early dismissal of classes and advised them to make necessary arrangements to take their children home.
Rajendra Vidyalaya, a prominent ICSE school in the city, was among the institutions that took precautionary measures. The school conducted classes until 10.30 am, after which students were dispersed early in view of the developing situation.
The early closure reflected growing concern among educational institutions and parents amid the administration’s decision to impose restrictions on public gatherings across the city.
Administration Appeals Against Rumours
The district administration has also appealed to citizens to strictly comply with the prohibitory order and refrain from believing or circulating rumours and unverified information.
Residents have been advised to exercise restraint and verify information before sharing it, particularly on social media platforms.
The administration has specifically cautioned people against circulating objectionable, inflammatory or misleading messages that could aggravate the situation.
Officials have urged residents to cooperate with the administration and refrain from any activity that could potentially disturb peace and public order.
