Ranchi, August 12: The Congress on Wednesday accused the BJP of attempting to hijack the ongoing student agitation over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations by allegedly mobilising people from outside Jharkhand.
The party alleged that the BJP was using the students’ concerns as a political platform and described the development as a calculated attempt to exploit the agitation for political gains.
Ministers Radhakrishna Kishore, Dr Irfan Ansari, Deepika Pandey Singh and Shilpi Neha Tirkey visited the protest site and spoke about the government’s position on the ongoing agitation.
Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore claimed that a resolution to the students’ concerns could have been reached during the August 10 proceedings, but alleged that the BJP boycotted the session and instead allowed the agitation to continue.
Kishore said that protesters reaching the gates of the Legislative Assembly was unprecedented and alleged that such an action amounted to an attempt to undermine the parliamentary system.
The Congress leader demanded a high-level inquiry into the sequence of events surrounding the protest and rejected recent statements made by BJP state president Aditya Sahu.
Irfan Ansari Alleges Outsiders Were Brought to Protest
Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari alleged that people from Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Bihar had been brought to Jharkhand to participate in the agitation.
He claimed that the state government had already accepted around 95 per cent of the students’ demands and alleged that the remaining issues could be resolved through dialogue.
Shilpi Neha Tirkey Targets BJP
Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey alleged that the BJP was deliberately disturbing the atmosphere in the state at the direction of its central leadership in Delhi.
She said the government wanted to establish a precedent by ensuring a fair and transparent investigation into the allegations surrounding recruitment examinations.
Deepika Pandey Singh Raises Paper Leak Concerns
Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh said that 152 cases of paper leaks had been reported since 2015, but alleged that no one had been punished in connection with them.
She claimed that the government’s decision to pursue investigations had unsettled the BJP and alleged that the opposition party was now attempting to derail the process.
The Congress leaders reiterated that the students’ concerns should be addressed through dialogue and investigation, while accusing the BJP of attempting to turn the agitation into a political confrontation.
