Palamu SP warns SUV owners against using black films, 20 vehicles detained

Daltonganj, September 19: Police in Palamu have stepped up enforcement against the use of black films on vehicles, with personnel from Town police station, Daltonganj, and Chainpur police station detaining around 20 SUVs on Friday and removing the tinted films from their windows.

According to police sources, the owners and drivers were also cautioned against using black films again.

Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary has also drawn attention for action against the use of black films on luxury vehicles. According to the report, within a fortnight of taking charge as Palamu SP, black films were removed from the SUVs of two individuals described in the report as being associated with land grabbing and extortion.

The action generated a strong response locally, with the removal of the tinted films being seen as a visible enforcement measure.

Police step up checks on tinted vehicle windows

The latest action comes amid continued police checks on vehicles fitted with heavily tinted windows.

The report states that the use of black films on the front, rear or side windows of SUVs is illegal in India and that the Supreme Court has taken a strict view of their use.

It also notes that visibility standards are linked to Visual Light Transmission (VLT). According to the information provided, front and rear windows are required to allow 70% VLT, while side windows must allow 50% VLT.

Police have warned vehicle owners and drivers against using excessively dark films and indicated that action could follow if the practice is repeated.
