Jamshedpur, October 17: Rail traffic on the up line of the Chakradharpur railway division was disrupted for nearly two hours after a wagon of a moving goods train derailed near Jaruli station on Friday evening. The incident damaged overhead equipment and signalling installations, prompting an emergency restoration operation.
The derailment occurred near kilometre marker 406/33 on the up main line when a wagon of the goods train went off the tracks while the train was in motion.
Overhead Equipment, Signalling Systems Damaged
The derailment damaged railway infrastructure, including overhead equipment and installations belonging to the signalling department, making the restoration work more complex.
Railway officials immediately assessed the extent of the damage and initiated measures to restore normal train movement.
An accident relief train was rushed to the site soon after the incident was reported, while personnel from the concerned departments launched restoration work on a war footing.
Train Operations Restored Within Two Hours
Restoration teams worked to clear the affected section, repair damaged installations and ensure that the track and associated railway systems were safe for train movement.
The coordinated efforts enabled railway authorities to resume operations on the affected route within approximately two hours.
A railway official said, “An accident relief train was immediately sent to the site after the derailment was reported. Restoration work was taken up on a priority basis, and train operations on the affected line were resumed after the necessary repairs and safety checks.”
The prompt mobilisation of emergency resources helped limit the duration of the disruption. However, the incident highlighted the operational challenges posed by derailments that damage not only railway tracks but also overhead equipment and signalling infrastructure, both essential for safe and efficient train operations.
The exact cause of the derailment was not immediately known. A further technical examination will be required to establish the circumstances that led to the wagon leaving the tracks.
