Jamshedpur, November 3: South Eastern Railway (SER) has generated ₹403.86 crore through scrap sales up to October 2026, becoming the first zonal railway to cross the ₹400-crore mark so far this financial year.
The railway zone said the milestone was reached faster than ever before and placed SER at the top among all zonal railways in the country.
Revenue from scrap sales was 55.37 per cent higher than in the corresponding period of the previous financial year and 68.28 per cent above the proportionate target of ₹240 crore for the current fiscal.
October sales highest among railway zones
SER recorded scrap sales worth ₹90.43 crore in October, against a target of ₹49 crore under the Swachhatta Special Campaign 6.0. The railway said this was the highest scrap-sale figure achieved by any zonal railway during the campaign period.
The performance is part of SER’s “Zero Scrap” mission, being pursued under the guidance of General Manager Anil Kumar Jain. The initiative aims to identify obsolete and unserviceable materials across railway establishments and ensure their systematic disposal.
According to SER, most of its work units have attained Zero Scrap status. Newly generated scrap at identified locations is being auctioned promptly, while the lifting of sold materials has been completed at most locations.
Zone-wide drive to clear accumulated scrap
The Stores Department, in coordination with other railway establishments, has carried out a zone-wide exercise to identify and clear accumulated scrap from depots, workshops, maintenance sheds and other railway premises.
SER said the coordinated effort has helped improve asset management, generate revenue and maintain cleaner railway premises.
The railway zone said it would continue the Zero Scrap mission, with a focus on cleaner premises, better resource utilisation and higher revenue for Indian Railways.
