New Delhi, Jan 4: IndiGo airlines declared on Thursday that it has discontinued the imposition of fuel surcharge on tickets, a decision made almost three months after introducing the charge in response to a spike in prices of jet fuel.

With effect from Thursday, the fuel charge which the airline had implemented in early October 2023, has been abolished.

Both domestic and international flights operated by the airline were subject to the fuel charge.

ATF prices

The airline stated that the withdrawal of the fuel charge is a result of the recent decrease in prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).

“As ATF prices are dynamic, we will continue to adjust our fares and components thereof, to respond to any change in prices or market conditions,” IndiGo mentioned in a statement.

A considerable portion of an airline’s operational expenses is attributed to fuel costs.

IndiGo stated that a spike in the price of ATF led to the introduction of the fuel tax in October 2023.
