Both investigative bodies, namely the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), are scrutinizing discrepancies in the hiring processes conducted by municipal authorities.

On June 7th, the CBI carried out raids at 16 different places, securing documents from civic bodies across Nadia, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas districts, as well as the Salt Lake municipality.

Subsequently, in August 2023, the West Bengal government’s plea contesting the CBI investigation into the case was denied by the Supreme Court.
