Jamshedpur, Jan 27: A 30-year-old man attempted to commit suicide by hanging after killing his wife and three-year-old son at his house under Bahragora Thana area in the Ghatsila sub-division of the district at the wee hours on Saturday.

The incident has taken place at Kokmara village in Matihanta panchayat about 90 kms away from here.

After learning about the incident, a police party from the Bahragora thana reached the spot this morning and took the accused identified as Subendu Bera in custody.

Accused mentally deranged

According to police, Subendu who was reportedly mentally-deranged had first hacked his wife Parvati Bera and the toddler son in sleep and had come out of the house for committing suicide.

According to the police, the insane man had climbed on a tree with rope and started fixing the knot at a branch of the tree. But a commotion that had awakened the neighbours during the act of the killings, a couple of immediate neighbours caught hold of him and tied him to a tree.

In the morning, the neighbours informed the police, leading the latter to arrest Subendu.

The police have also recovered the bodies and also the murder weapon from the house.

It is learned that Subendu who is still in the shock has not given the reason behind his such barbaric act.
