Mumbai, Feb 13: A day after leaving the Congress party, Ashok Chavan, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, joined the BJP on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters earlier today, Chavan stated, “I am joining the BJP today at its office in Mumbai. Today is the beginning of my new political career.”

In the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, head of the Mumbai party unit Ashish Shelar, and cabinet member Girish Mahajan, Chavan, 65, was inducted into the BJP at the party office in Mumbai.

His departure from the Congress occurred shortly after senior Maharashtra Congress figures Baba Siddique and Milind Deora resigned from the party.

Ashok Chavan resigned as chief minister in 2010 due to accusations of his involvement in the Adarsh housing scam in Mumbai.
