New Delhi, Sept 6: Adani Power has finalized a deal with Bhutan’s state-owned Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) for a 570 MW hydroelectric project. On Saturday, both companies signed a Shareholders’ Agreement (SHA) involving an investment of around ₹6,000 crore.

In addition, they reached agreements on a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and concession arrangements. The signing ceremony was attended by Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Shering Tobgay and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani.

Construction to Begin in 2026, Targeted Completion in Five Years

The Wangchu Peaking Run-of-River Project will be developed under a BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) model, with both companies collaborating from construction to operation and power supply. Work on the project is expected to begin in the first half of 2026, with completion targeted within five years.

Clean Energy Benefits for India

According to Adani Power CEO S.B. Khayalia, the project will support Bhutan’s energy supply during winter when hydropower generation is low. During the summer, electricity will be exported to India, strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries.

First Project under 5,000 MW Hydropower Partnership

The Wangchu Project is the first initiative under the 5,000 MW hydroelectric development partnership agreed upon by Adani Group and DGPC in May 2025. DGPC will hold a 51% stake, while Adani Group will hold 49%.
