Agrotech Farmers’ fair at BAU from March 14

 

Ranchi, March 10: Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) will organise a three-day State-level Agrotech Farmers’ Fair at its Kanke campus from March 14 to 16.

The fair will be inaugurated on March 14 by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, while Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will attend the closing ceremony as the chief guest on March 16.

The central theme of the event is “Climate-Resilient Technological Innovations for Sustainable Agriculture.”

Ministers, MPs and MLAs to attend

Among the special guests expected to attend the fair are Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey, departmental Secretary Aboobackar Siddiqui, and MLAs Rajesh Kachhap, Amit Kumar and Suresh Kumar Baitha.

On the second day, Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato will inaugurate the animal and bird exhibition, while Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji will inaugurate the Women Farmers’ Seminar. Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, Dr Asha Lakra, will attend the seminar as a special guest.

135 stalls to showcase farm technologies

BAU Vice-Chancellor Dr SC Dubey said around 135 stalls will be set up during the fair.

Departments, colleges, regional research centres and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of BAU, along with ICAR institutes in Jharkhand, agriculture-related departments, seed and machinery manufacturers, banks, financial institutions and NGOs will showcase modern agricultural technologies, services and products.

Farmers will also receive technical guidance from scientists to help address farming-related challenges.

Exhibitions, demonstrations and seminars

The fair will feature live demonstrations of crop production technologies, protected cultivation of flowers and vegetables, exhibitions of agricultural machinery, hybrid seeds and planting materials, and displays of agro-products.

Facilities such as free soil and water testing, consultation for animal diseases, and technical advice on animal husbandry and farm management will also be available.

The event will also include horticulture exhibitions, farmer seminars, experimental field visits, screening of agricultural technology films, and felicitation of progressive farmers.

Officials said farmers from various districts of Jharkhand are expected to participate in large numbers.
