Chennai, April 11: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced a major political development for Tamil Nadu, confirming that the AIADMK, BJP, and their alliance partners will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections together under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) banner.

Addressing a press conference in Chennai alongside BJP’s K. Annamalai and AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Shah emphasized that this unified front will contest under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership at the national level, while Palaniswami will lead at the state level.

Shah expressed strong optimism about the alliance’s prospects, asserting that the NDA is poised to secure a decisive majority and form the government in Tamil Nadu.

He highlighted that the BJP would respect AIADMK’s internal matters and would not interfere, adding that the collaboration comes without any conditions or demands from AIADMK’s side.
Reaffirming BJP’s commitment to strengthening its position in Tamil Nadu—a state where it struggled in the last Lok Sabha elections—Shah noted that this alliance would prove mutually beneficial for both the NDA and AIADMK.
