Ranchi, July 24: Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, demanding the removal of Jamal Ahmed from his position as a member of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and seeking an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) into his alleged disproportionate assets.

In his letter, Marandi urged the Chief Minister to order an immediate and comprehensive ACB probe into all movable and immovable assets, bank accounts, investments, and known as well as alleged undisclosed sources of income of the JPSC member.

He also called for Ahmed’s immediate removal from office, stating that it would help prevent any possible interference with the investigation and uphold the credibility of the constitutional body.

In the letter, Marandi claimed that he had received information from “highly reliable sources” alleging that Jamal Ahmed had amassed substantial movable and immovable assets by allegedly misusing his official position.

He alleged that Ahmed owns a luxury flat measuring around 3,000–4,000 square feet in Ranchi and is reportedly looking to purchase another large apartment in the city. Marandi also alleged that Ahmed has acquired significant benami and immovable properties in Hazaribagh district.

Questions appointment to JPSC

Marandi also questioned Ahmed’s appointment to the JPSC, referring to his earlier recruitment as a lecturer in 2008.

He alleged that the recruitment process in which Ahmed was appointed as a lecturer is under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and argued that a person whose own appointment is under scrutiny should not have been appointed to a constitutional body responsible for conducting recruitment examinations.

The BJP leader further alleged that Ahmed’s appointment to the JPSC was made under pressure from former state minister Alamgir Alam, an allegation for which he did not provide evidence in the letter.

‘Youth must have faith in JPSC’

Expressing concern over the credibility of the commission, Marandi said that appointing a person facing allegations of corruption to the JPSC could undermine public confidence among lakhs of job aspirants.

He urged the Chief Minister to ensure transparency in recruitment by ordering an impartial investigation.

“I urge and demand that a thorough investigation be conducted immediately by the Anti-Corruption Bureau into all movable and immovable assets, bank accounts, investments, and known as well as unknown sources of income of Shri Jamal Ahmed. Furthermore, to prevent any interference with the investigation and to uphold the dignity of an institution like the JPSC, he should be removed from his post immediately,” Marandi wrote.
