Dhanbad, Dec 2: The momentum for the Teachers’ Association poll of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad is gaining ground. Dr DK Singh, HoD, Environmental Science, became the first candidate to put his hat in the ring.
Dr Singh, who is also general secretary of the Post Graduate Teachers Association (PGTA), is geared up to contest for the president post of BBMKUTA. For this, he has resigned from the post of HoD at the university.
The election of BBMKUTA will be held on December 20. The nomination paper would be filed from December 4 to 7.

Dr DK Singh is considered a firebrand leader in the BBMKU who does not tolerate violations of rules and regulations. In 2022, at a university foundation day function at SSLNT Women’s College, he strongly protested when dignitaries did not pay homage to the late Binod Bihari Mahto (MP) on the occasion. The University is named after the late MP
The then vice-chancellor Dr Mukul Deo Narayan had to tender an apology on the stage immediately.
This year in June, when the then vice-chancellor Dr Sukhdeo Bhoi ordered to keep university teachers under lock on the campus during class hours, DK Singh along with some teachers strongly launched an agitation.
However, probable candidates for the top posts have not opened their cards while hardly 48 hours are left for the starting of nomination.
The general secretary of the outgoing committee Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary and Dr BN Singh are still mum. Both leaders are very popular among teachers.
Dr Jitendra Aryan, spokesperson of the outgoing committee said he is not in the race for any post but would like a responsible and responsive teacher to be elected.
