New Delhi, Dec 19: Tensions flared between the BJP and Congress on Thursday over claims of a physical altercation outside Parliament, leading both parties to lodge police complaints accusing each other of assault and inappropriate behaviour.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur stated that they had filed a complaint with the Delhi Police against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, alleging assault and incitement.
“We have filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Rahul Gandhi for assault and incitement. We have mentioned in detail the incident that happened today outside Makar Dwar, where NDA MPs were protesting peacefully… We have given a complaint under Sections 109, 115, 117, 125, 131 and 351. Section 109 is an attempt to murder, Section 117 is voluntary causing grievous hurt,” he stated.
The allegations followed protests in Parliament by both the NDA and INDIA bloc, which reportedly led to a scuffle injuring BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. Both were promptly taken to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment.

At the same time, Congress MPs filed a counter-complaint at the Parliament Street Police Station accusing BJP MPs of misconduct towards Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that BJP MPs pushed him, causing him to lose his balance and suffer knee injuries.
Earlier, in this regard, BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi said, “Rahul Gandhi pushed a member of Parliament who fell on me after which I fell down. I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP who then fell on me.”
Responding to the allegations, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stated that while he was trying to enter Parliament through the main gate, BJP MPs attempted to block his way, pushed him, and tried to intimidate him. He also alleged that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed as well.
