New Delhi, April 1: The BJP-led government will introduce the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced today.
The bill will be tabled after the Question Hour in Parliament, followed by an eight-hour discussion, which may be extended if required, Rijiju stated on Tuesday.
The BJP has issued a whip to all its Lok Sabha MPs to be present in Parliament on April 2.

Rijiju emphasized that the bill aims to reform Waqf management by promoting transparency and digitization while ensuring that it does not infringe upon religious institutions’ freedom. He said the legislation seeks to grant rights to those previously deprived of them.
The bill has sparked strong opposition, with critics labeling it “unconstitutional” and accusing the BJP of attempting to strip Muslims of their rights.
Meanwhile, Rijiju had earlier briefed BJP spokespersons at the party headquarters, outlining the bill’s provisions and emphasizing its benefits for the Muslim community.
