Daltonganj, April 1: Daltonganj fire station faces acute human crunch.

The Daltonganj Fire Station has only five firemen and four drivers, said the District Fire Officer Uttam Kumar Mahto.

“It’s too small a contingent to beat any outbreak of fire,” lamented the fire officer.

The fire officer said, “There are 16 sanctioned posts of firemen in Daltonganj but we make do with just five. Similarly, as against eight drivers, we have just four.”

The Daltonganj fire station works at half of the strength of the sanctioned posts.

Sources said there has been no recruitment for firemen since 2017 in Jharkhand.

Sources said 265 vacancies for firemen were listed in 2017 against which only 60 recruitments were done in the state.

A huge 205 posts of firemen stand vacant in Jharkhand which has 42 Fire Stations across the state.

Again the Daltonganj Fire Station has no hydraulic fire tender.

It has an extension ladder fire tender that can douse fire upto G+3 building only.
