Kolkata, May 23: A female BJP worker was murdered in Nandigram, located in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. This incident led to significant demonstrations by BJP supporters in the area on Thursday, according to the police.
Alleging that the TMC-backed criminals were responsible for the death of Rathibala Arhi (38), a saffron party worker in Sonachura village, BJP workers in Nandigram set fire to tyres, blocked roads, and pulled down shop shutters.
Arhi killed, seven injured in attack by bike-borne assailants
According to a police officer, Arhi was killed and seven others sustained injuries in a late-night attack by unidentified assailants on motorcycles.
Out of the seven individuals reportedly injured, one person was in critical condition and was transferred to a hospital in Kolkata.

Police, RAF deployed to control situation
A local BJP leader stated that the saffron party initially declared a shutdown in Nandigram as part of their protest but later cancelled it.
According to the police, a significant number of police officers and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been stationed in the area to manage the unruly crowd. No arrests related to the reported killing have been made so far.
The area, situated within the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency and known as the stronghold of West Bengal’s Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, is set to participate in the sixth phase of the elections on May 25th.
BJP alleges TMC backed criminals behind attack
“Arhi and several other party workers were tasked with the job of guarding a local polling booth last night after poll campaigns in the area ended for the day. TMC-backed criminals attacked them. She was murdered and others were left badly injured,” stated BJP’s district general secretary Meghnadh Paul to PTI.
