Ranchi, March 21: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has begun raids at Tupudana police station officer in-charge Meera Singh and her close associates and brokers in a land scam.

They include Congress leader Lal Mohit Nath Shahdeo.

Several leaders, including Babulal Marandi, had raised her deployment at Tupudana in 2022 after cow smugglers crushed sub-inspector Sandhya Topno to death. After the incident, the then Officer in charge, Kanhaiya Singh, was replaced by Meera Singh.

Meera Singh is a 2012 batch sub-inspector. She was appointed officer-in-charge of Tupudana police station in 2022. Earlier she was posted at Khunti Mahila Thana. She was arrested and jailed for accepting Rs 15000 as a bribe on February 25, 2021. The anti-corruption bureau had arrested her for accepting a bribe.

It is said Meera played a vital role in arresting Babulal Marandi’s political advisor Sunil Tiwary.

Why did the ACB arrest her?

The controversial police officer had been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau over three years back while she was posted in Khunti.

She had demanded a Rs 50 thousand bribe from a woman for not registering the case in her son’s name.

Nagi Horo (42) of Bagdu village had lodged a complaint with the ACB against the lady police station in-charge. According to Nagi Horo, on February 12, Meera Singh had called her to the police station. On reaching there, Meera Singh asked her where her son was. Nagi Horo told her that his son is in the army and is currently posted in Patna. Then Meera Singh said that a girl has accused her son of rape. Her son will get into trouble badly and go to jail. He will also lose his job. If she wanted to save her son, she will have to pay Rs 50 thousand. Then the case will not be registered and her son will be saved.

On this, Nagi Horo started pleading in front of the woman police station in-charge. On this, Meera Singh demanded an immediate arrangement of Rs 15,000 from anywhere. She said that if she didn’t give the money, she would file a case and send her son to jail. Nagi Horo did not want to pay the bribe. After this, she complained about it to ACB. The ACB team arrested Meera Singh red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 15,000.
