New Delhi, July 11: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials arrested the Superintendent of Central GST and Central Excise in Odisha on Thursday for taking a bribe from a complainant to facilitate his GST refund.
Manoj Kumar Subudhi, the Superintendent of Central GST and Central Excise in Berhampur, Ganjam district of Odisha, has been identified as the arrested accused.
While accepting the first instalment of Rs 15,000 out of the Rs 20,000 bribe he demanded from the complainant, he was caught red-handed.

The accused officer was alleged to have demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant, under the pretence of having previously processed a Rs 1.77 lakh GST refund and for facilitating the processing of another ₹3 lakh GST refund.
A case was registered by the CBI on July 9 in relation to this matter, and based on the complaint, they conducted a trap operation and arrested the Superintendent of Central GST and Central Excise from Berhampur, Ganjam district, Odisha.
The CBI executed a search operation at both his residential and official locations in Berhampur and Bhubaneswar, uncovering incriminating documents.
