New Delhi, April 9: In light of possible threats, the Union government has given Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar a Z-category VIP security cover of armed commandos, official sources on Tuesday stated.

According to sources, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has assigned the Central Reserve Police Force with the responsibility of providing a group of approximately 40-45 personnel for the security.

A report on threat perception compiled by central security agencies has advised providing robust protection for Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kumar. This action is being taken in the context of preparations for the upcoming seven-phase general elections commencing on April 19.
