Dhanbad, May 16: The Joint Front of central trade unions has decided to defer its proposed nationwide strike, initially scheduled for May 20, by 20 days. The strike has now been rescheduled to July 9.

Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Union (RCMU) general secretary A.K. Jha informed that the decision was taken during a meeting of presidents from all major central trade unions (barring the BMS) held in Delhi on Thursday evening. In light of the prevailing situation in the country following the Pahalgam incident, the leaders unanimously agreed to postpone the strike.

Top leaders from various central trade unions, including INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC, and independent associations, were present at the meeting.
The Joint Front, an alliance of trade unions affiliated with opposition parties, had initially called for the nationwide strike on May 20 to protest against the implementation of the new Labour Codes and to press for other legitimate demands concerning workers, farmers, and the general public.
“Although the strike has been rescheduled to July 9, it was resolved in the meeting that massive demonstrations and mobilisations will still be held on May 20 at state capitals, district headquarters, and major industrial workplaces,” said the RCMU leader.
