Ranchi, April 19: Chitrapat Jharkhand will organise a three-day film festival in Ranchi from June 26 to 28, 2026, to promote meaningful and socially relevant cinema while providing a platform for local filmmakers.

Announcing the event at a press conference held at Vishva Samvad Kendra on Sunday, Festival Director Nand Kumar Singh said the festival seeks to build a creative dialogue between cinema and society.

Focus on Local Talent

The festival will take place at the Sarla Birla University campus and will exclusively showcase films produced in Jharkhand. Singh said entries from other states will not be accepted, ensuring a focused platform for local talent.

“The objective is to encourage emerging filmmakers and allow them to present their creative expression through cinema,” he said, adding that the initiative aims to promote responsible and thought-provoking filmmaking.

Categories and Awards

Films will be featured in three categories: short films (up to 20 minutes), documentaries (up to 30 minutes), and campus films made by students (up to 15 minutes).

Awards will be given across categories, with a total prize pool of Rs 2.7 lakh.

Apart from screenings, the festival will include seminars, workshops, and masterclasses, where experts will guide participants on different aspects of filmmaking. Interactive sessions, thematic discussions, cultural programmes, and networking opportunities are also planned.

Participation and Registration

Organisers expect participation from filmmakers, artists, technicians, and cinema enthusiasts from across Jharkhand. Film selection will follow a structured process, with preference given to entries that create social impact.

Interested participants can submit their entries through the official website or a Google Form, with detailed guidelines and registration information to be released soon.

The organising committee has urged media platforms to help spread awareness about the festival and support the growth of creative filmmaking in the state.
