Dhanbad, Dec 11: Amid rising concerns over the gas leakage in the Kenduadih Colliery area, Coal India Limited (CIL) Chairman Sanoj Kumar Jha held a meeting with Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar to discuss the safety of families residing in the affected zone.

Prior to the meeting, Sanoj Kumar Jha visited the affected areas and interacted with residents. Responding to their protests, he assured them that there would be no immediate displacement. However, he urged residents not to risk their lives and recommended temporary relocation to relief camps for safety.

During the meeting, the CIL chairman reviewed reports from scientific agencies including CIMFR, IIT ISM Dhanbad, PMRC, and CMPDIL, and deliberated on possible solutions to the escalating crisis.

Chairman Jha described the situation as “grave,” citing continuous gas leakage in the area. He stressed that evacuation is the only way to ensure the safety of residents.

“In the past, gas leakage would stop spontaneously after two or three days of emission. This time, however, the leakage has been increasing day by day for the past 10 days. It is difficult to predict when it will stop,” he said.

According to CIL’s high-level team, the leakage is most dangerous at three points: near the deserted General Manager Bangla, Masjid Muhalla, and Rajput Basti under the Putki Balihari Colliery Area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited.
