New Delhi, September 12: Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), passed away on Thursday from complications related to pneumonia. He was 72 years old.
Yechury was hospitalized at AIIMS Delhi on August 19, 2024, first in the emergency ward and subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Sitaram Yechury was a distinguished Indian politician who was born on August 12, 1952, in Chennai and was a member of the CPM politburo for 32 years and served as the party’s General Secretary from 2015.
He also served as a member of the Rajya Sabha, representing West Bengal from 2005 to 2017.
