Ranchi, Dec. 22: Mathematician Srinivas Ramanujam was today remembered at Central University of Jharkhand on his 136th birth anniversary.

The programme was organised in the Mathematics and Statistics department of the university. Former Ranchi University Mathematics department head K.C. Prasad was present in the programme with the CUJ vice chancellor and concerned department’s professors.

Prasad explained the life journey of Ramanujan, saying that the mathematician saw ups and downs in his life and explained how mathematicians’ sacrifice and dedication, with the support of Professor Hardy, made him an icon in the field of mathematics.

Talking about Ramanujan, Prasad said: “He (Ramanujam) was not an ordinary person. His spiritual power was very strong. Before explaining any theorem, he used to see it in his dreams.”

Prasad on the occasion said that the development of any nation is measured by the development of mathematics.

“Srinivasa Ramanujan’s birthday, which was celebrated as National Mathematics Day in the entire country, now on the request of the Prime Minister, National Mathematics Day will be celebrated for a week and everyone should be made aware of the contribution of mathematics in the development of the country,” Prasad said.

To make National Mathematics Day broad and comprehensive, various programmes were organised by the students.
