Jamshedpur, Nov 6: Dayanand Public School, Jamshedpur, hosted the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, with the theme centred on one of the most pressing global concerns—Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability.

The event witnessed participation from students of classes VII to X who assumed the roles of delegates representing various countries, international bodies, and committees.
A total of 21 UN countries, with 5 permanent members, were represented by the students. The conference aimed to provide students with a platform to understand the complexities of global governance while fostering critical thinking, research skills.

The 5 permanent members Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and 21 countries were Maldives, Brazil, Congo, Iraq, Argentina, Afghanistan, Greenland, Egypt, China, Malaysia, India, Albania, Qatar, France, Indonesia, Denmark, South Africa, Kenya, Canada, Srilanka, Bahrain.
Through structured debates the delegates explored the multifaceted impacts of climate change—rising temperatures, extreme weather events, biodiversity loss, and threats to global food and water scarcity.
In a display of commendable teamwork and leadership, participants discussed strategies for reducing geoengineering, reducing carbon emissions, increasing investment in renewable energy, strengthening climate-resilient infrastructure, salt-tolerant research methods and promoting international cooperation.

Swarna Mishra, Principal appreciated the dedication and preparedness of the students and the initiative taken by the history department of school, emphasising the need for schools to encourage platforms that build global awareness and civic responsibility.
She also highlighted that such events empower students to become informed leaders capable of addressing contemporary challenges with empathy and innovation.
