Daltonganj, June 20: In a bid to raise awareness against drug abuse, the Palamu district administration on Friday organised a cyclothon in Daltonganj, drawing enthusiastic participation from officials, students and residents.
The event, aimed at promoting a drug-free society, saw Deputy Commissioner Palamu Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat, Superintendent of Police Kapil Chaudhary, along with a large number of officers, students, boys, girls and local residents cycling through the town.
Participants described the initiative as a meaningful campaign against substance abuse rather than a symbolic exercise, saying the message of fighting the drug menace resonated strongly with those who took part.
At the conclusion of the event, the district administration presented mementoes to the best male and female cyclists in recognition of their participation and performance.
Participants Raise Concern Over Mobile Addiction
Several participants who spoke to this correspondent said the awareness campaign also touched upon the issue of mobile phone addiction.
“Our Deputy Commissioner spoke not only about drug addiction but also about mobile addiction. It is equally harmful in many ways. Mobile addiction creates a false sense of relaxation and stress relief, whereas excessive use often leads to fatigue, irritation and mental exhaustion,” a participant said.
The remarks reflected growing concerns over digital dependency, particularly among young people.
NEET Aspirant Skips Event Ahead of Re-Test
Meanwhile, a student preparing for the NEET re-test scheduled on June 21 said he chose not to participate in the cyclothon to avoid any risk of injury before the examination.
“I felt it was better to stay physically fit and avoid any possibility of getting hurt. Since this is a national-level examination and a re-test, I did not want to take any chances,” the aspirant said.
Pleasant Morning Weather Aids Participation
The cyclothon was held under relatively comfortable weather conditions, with the morning being less humid than usual. Participants enjoyed the ride and completed the awareness drive with enthusiasm.
