Jharkhand weather alert: IMD forecasts thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds till June 25

Jamshedpur, June 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi, has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across the state till June 25. The upcoming spell of rain is expected to bring relief from the prevailing heat, even as authorities advise residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.

Thunderstorm and Gusty Wind Alert Across Jharkhand

According to the latest bulletin issued by IMD Ranchi, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places across Jharkhand from June 20 to June 25.

On June 20, stronger winds of up to 60 kmph may affect parts of eastern Jharkhand and adjoining central districts. The weather office has urged people to stay alert during thunderstorm activity and avoid open areas during lightning events.

Hot and Humid Conditions in North-Western Districts

While most parts of the state are expected to witness rain and thundershowers, IMD has also warned of hot and humid weather at isolated locations in north-western districts, including Garhwa, Palamu and Chatra.

Ranchi Weather Forecast for the Next Five Days

For Ranchi and nearby areas, the forecast indicates generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers over the next five days.

Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 31°C and 33°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to range from 22°C to 24°C.

Jamshedpur Records 34°C; Daltonganj Hottest in State

The IMD weather report for the past 24 hours showed that Jamshedpur recorded a maximum temperature of 34°C and a minimum of 26°C, with only a trace of rainfall.

Daltonganj was the hottest place in Jharkhand at 40.2°C, while Latehar AWS recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 20.1°C.

Jharkhand Faces 56% Rainfall Deficit

Rainfall data between June 1 and June 19 indicate a significant monsoon shortfall across most districts of Jharkhand. The state has recorded an overall rainfall deficit of 56 per cent during the period.

However, meteorologists expect the upcoming wet spell to improve rainfall distribution and provide much-needed relief to several regions.

Officials have advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning. People should avoid taking shelter under trees and refrain from venturing into open fields or exposed areas during lightning activity.
