Dr. R.K. Gupta stated that letters have been sent to the Chief Minister, Health Minister, Additional Chief Secretary, and the SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) for the investigation. He mentioned that RIMS has lost a talented and promising student, and it was a heartbreaking incident. “I pray to God to give strength to his family to bear this grief. Dean of Students, Dr. Vidyapati, stated that the sudden demise of Dr. Madan has caused irreparable damage to both the family and RIMS.
Dr. Madan Kumar’s father, Mathiyalagan, arrived in Ranchi from Tamil Nadu with his family. A car from the Raj Bhavan had picked them up from the airport. The Raj Bhavan vehicle transported their relatives to RIMS. A condolence meeting was organized in the academic building of RIMS. Mathiyalagan burst into tears after seeing RIMS Director Dr. RK Gupta. People rushed to his aid and helped him regain his composure. Subsequently, the family members visited the director’s office and lodged an FIR before Sadar DSP Prabhat Ranjan Barwar.
Sadar DSP Prabhat Ranjan Barwar, mentioned that every aspect of the incident is under investigation. The administration has assured the family members that the investigation has been ongoing since the incident. A case has been registered at the Bariatu Police Station under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigations are being carried out. He also stated that directions have been given to enhance security by installing CCTV cameras in the hostel premises.
Since the incident, the medical students at RIMS have been deeply saddened and are in mourning. Dr. Madan Kumar’s post-mortem was conducted at RIMS, and the students who studied with him remained present in the post-mortem house during the procedure. It should be noted that the post-mortem was carried out under the supervision of a Magistrate. Video documentation of the post-mortem process was also done. After placing the body in the post-mortem house, medical students paid their tributes. Subsequently, the body was handed over to the family members.
Dr. Madan Kumar M hailed from Namakkal, Tamil Nadu. He had enrolled at RIMS on October 6, 2022, and had completed 13 months of his studies there. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department, stated that Madan was not only a brilliant student but also a talented singer. “In September, Madan’s mother was seriously ill, and he came to me in tears. I consoled him and granted him leave. His sudden departure leaves us with profound regret”, he said.
Behind RIMS Hostel Number 5, Dr. Madan Kumar M’s burnt body was found on Thursday. The Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) has denied considering his death as a suicide. They have expressed concerns regarding the medical student’s death and have called for a high-level investigation by the authorities. Students have raised questions, stating that if it’s not a case of suicide, then why were there no flammable substances or containers found near the area where the body was discovered. Additionally, they ask why no matchsticks or a lighter was found.
Dr. Jaydeep Choudhary, the president of the Junior Doctors’ Association, mentioned that he was a medical practitioner in the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology department. In such a case, it seems unlikely that such a violent method would have been chosen for suicide.
