Dry spell continues as Jharkhand records warmer days, cool nights


Jamshedpur, February 5:
Jharkhand continued to experience dry and largely warm weather conditions on Thursday, with daytime temperatures staying above normal at several places, while cool nights persisted in parts of the state, according to the Realised Weather Report issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.

Above-Normal Day Temperatures Across Key Cities

Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.6°C, which was 1.7°C above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 13.4°C, also higher than the seasonal average.

Jamshedpur witnessed warmer daytime conditions, with the mercury climbing to 30.1°C, registering a departure of 2.5°C above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 15.7°C.

Bokaro (Thermal) saw a sharp rise in heat, recording a maximum of 29.1°C, which was 4.3°C above normal. Daltonganj reported a maximum temperature of 27.6°C, accompanied by a cooler night temperature of 11.1°C.

Hottest and Coldest Spots

The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at Chaibasa and Seraikela, both touching 31.8°C, making them the hottest locations of the day.

On the colder side, Gumla and Hazaribagh recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 9.7°C, indicating a noticeable chill during the night despite rising daytime temperatures elsewhere.

Regional Variations and Visibility

Data from Automated Weather Stations revealed regional contrasts, with Latehar remaining relatively cooler at 22.9°C, while Hazaribagh experienced a significant drop in night temperature over the past 24 hours.

In Ranchi, city monitoring stations showed minor fluctuations, with minimum temperatures ranging between 9.8°C and 13.4°C.

No rainfall was recorded anywhere in Jharkhand during the past 24 hours, keeping the dry spell intact across the state. Visibility dropped to 2,000 metres at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, suggesting morning haze or shallow fog.

Winter Gradually Weakening

Overall, the prevailing weather pattern indicates a gradual weakening of winter, marked by rising daytime temperatures, cool nights, and dry conditions across Jharkhand.
