EC reports 57.7% voting till 5 pm in sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi, May 25: Data released by the Election Commission on Saturday shows that, as of 5 pm, the total voter turnout in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections for 58 parliamentary constituencies was 57.7%.

As per Election Commission, West Bengal saw the highest voter turnout at 77.99 per cent, followed by Jharkhand at 61.41 per cent, Odisha at 59.60 per cent, Haryana at 55.93 per cent, Delhi at 53.73 per cent, Uttar Pradesh at 52.02 per cent, Bihar at 52.24 per cent, and Jammu and Kashmir at 51.35 per cent.

In Jharkhand, 61.41% of voting took place till 5 pm.

Voter turnout was 58.73% in the Ranchi Lok Sabha seat, 58.90% in Dhanbad, 64.30% in Jamshedpur and 64.75% in the Giridih Lok Sabha seat.

By 3 pm, 49.20 per cent of voting had taken place. The highest turnout was in West Bengal at 70.19 per cent, and the lowest was in Uttar Pradesh at 43.95 per cent. By 3 pm in the afternoon, 44.58 per cent of the voting had occurred in Delhi. In Bihar, the turnout was 45.21 per cent, in Haryana it was 46.26 per cent, in Jammu and Kashmir it was 44.41 per cent, and in Jharkhand it was 54.34 per cent. In Odisha, the turnout was 48.44 per cent, and in Uttar Pradesh it was 43.95 per cent till 3pm.

In the sixth phase, voting also took place for 42 assembly constituencies in Odisha, with the state concurrently holding its assembly elections alongside the Lok Sabha polls.

In the midst of strict security and preparations, voting for the sixth round of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections commenced on Saturday morning across 58 parliamentary constituencies dispersed among six states and two Union Territories (UTs).

The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections covers eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four seats in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six seats in Odisha, 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, and eight seats in West Bengal. There are 889 candidates competing in this phase.

The four seats in Jharkhand participating in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections are Ranchi, Dhanbad, Giridih, and Jamshedpur.
