Ex-JPSC Chairman L. Khyangte grilled by CID in recruitment scam probe

THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Ranchi, July 28: Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Chairman L. Khyangte appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, including the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination.

Khyangte reached the CID office at the scheduled time after being served a notice directing him to appear on July 28, following which investigators began questioning him.

The CID is investigating allegations of large-scale irregularities in appointments made through the Jharkhand Public Service Commission. Several people have already been arrested in connection with the alleged recruitment scam, including the purported kingpin, Abhay Tiwari.

According to sources, JPSC member Sweta Gupta has told investigators that the alleged irregularities were carried out under the instructions of the then Chairman.

Questions Over OMR Sheet Irregularities

Sources said the CID has independently gathered evidence during the course of the investigation and is expected to decide its next course of action after Khyangte’s interrogation.

Investigators are also expected to question him over allegations that he failed to act despite reportedly being informed about irregularities involving nearly 500 OMR sheets around six months before the issue surfaced publicly.

Earlier Raids Yielded Documents, Digital Evidence

The CID had earlier conducted searches at Khyangte’s official residence on Kanke Road and his office chamber at the JPSC headquarters. During the nearly five-hour operation, officials examined documents and questioned him.

Searches were also carried out at the JPSC headquarters and the office of TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL), the agency associated with conducting the examinations.

During the raids, the CID seized recruitment-related documents, OMR sheets, computer data and other digital evidence from the JPSC office. Officials also collected records related to the examination process from the TDPL office.

Khyangte assumed charge as JPSC Chairman on March 6, 2025, and resigned from the post after the CID raids.

Officials believe Tuesday’s interrogation could prove significant in taking the investigation into the alleged recruitment scam forward.
