Dhanbad, Dec 24: Dr. K.V. Vidyanandan, a Professor of Practice in the Department of Electrical Engineering at NIT Calicut, Kerala, delivered an insightful lecture on hydrogen’s role in the power and transport sectors at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, on Tuesday.

The lecture, organized by IIT ISM’s Electrical Engineering Department, was part of a conference titled ‘Emerging Roles of Hydrogen in Power and Transport Sectors.’
Dr. Vidyanandan delved into hydrogen’s potential as a clean energy carrier, emphasizing its transformative role in reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Advancements, challenges, and global perspectives
During his address, Dr. Vidyanandan highlighted recent advancements in hydrogen technologies, particularly in power generation and transportation. He discussed the challenges involved in integrating hydrogen into existing systems and explored solutions to overcome these hurdles.
He also provided a global perspective on hydrogen’s pivotal role in facilitating the energy transition towards a more sustainable future.
The session was presided over by IIT (ISM) Director Prof. Sukumar Mishra and was attended by Prof. Sukanta Das, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, along with a large gathering of faculty members, research scholars, and students.

Dr. Vidyanandan’s career
An IIT ISM official said that Dr. Vidyanandan joined NIT Calicut in 2023 after a remarkable 38-year tenure at NTPC Limited. He retired as General Manager at the Power Management Institute (PMI) in Noida.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Vidyanandan is a senior member of IEEE (USA) and serves as a peer reviewer for IEEE and IET research articles, reflecting his significant contributions to the field of electrical engineering.
