Sixth French leader to be chief guest at Republic Day
Macron will be the sixth French leader to be the chief guest at the Republic Day parade in 2024. Jacques Chirac, a former French Prime Minister, had the honour twice in 1976 and 1998. The celebrations were attended in 1980, 2008, and 2016 by former presidents Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Nicolas Sarkozy, and François Hollande, respectively.
The occurrence follows Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France in July, where he participated as a guest of honor in the Bastille Day (French National Day) celebrations in Paris.
Macron met with PM Modi during his September visit to Delhi for the G20 Summit, which was hosted by India. PM Modi stated that he had a “productive lunch meeting” with Macron adding that he was looking forward to seeing the India-France relationship reach new heights of development.
