Jamshedpur, Aug 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (maximum speed 30–40 kmph) at isolated places across Jharkhand till August 14, Thursday.

Weathermen ruled out the possibility of heavy rainfall over Jharkhand in the next 72 hours.

According to weathermen at IMD’s Ranchi centre, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Faridkot, Ludhiana, Najibabad, Shahjahanpur, Balia, and Jalpaiguri, moving east-northeastwards towards Arunachal Pradesh.

An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, extending up to 4.5 Km above mean sea level and tilting southwards with height.

Additionally, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 13, which may further enhance rainfall activity in the eastern region in the coming days after Thursday.

According to statistics, Jharkhand was currently experiencing surplus rainfall of 41 per cent.

Against the normal rainfall of 607 mm Jharkhand has so far received 854 mm of rain, resulting in 41 per cent surplus rain.
