IIM Ranchi hosts POMS India International Conference

Jamshedpur, Dec 5: IIM Ranchi is hosting the POMS India International Conference 2024 which began yesterday.

The inauguration ceremony of the three-day conference was held at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium.

Director of IIM Ranchi, Prof. Deepak Srivastava, along with esteemed dignitaries like Chittaranjan Jha, Partner and Director at Boston Consulting Group, and Prof. Sajeev A George, Professor, SPJIMR and current President of POMS India Chapter, and the conference chairpersons Prof. Vijaya Dixit, Prof. Krishna Dadsena and Prof. Rajeev Ranjan attended the conference.

Also, Prof. Sushil Gupta, founder president and Executive Director of POMS, Prof. Subodha Kumar, POMS President elect, and Prof. Nagesh Murti, past President of POMS, joined the program online.

Opening speeches highlight conference mission

In his opening speech, Prof. Sushil Gupta mentioned that the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) operates through several chapters geographically and aims to encourage operations management and promote research and teaching in this domain.

Prof. Sajeev A George mentioned the POMS India chapter’s involvement in enhancing the global reach of POMs by supporting and enhancing their mission in India through various conferences and workshops.

He also iterated the growing importance of the conference themes, including sustainability and resilience.

In his keynote speech, Chittaranjan Jha said that this program fosters collaboration, innovation, and thought leadership in operations in a VUCA world.

Discussions on the future of work and operations

The inauguration ceremony was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Deepak Srivastava, Professor, IIM Ranchi, and guests were Prof. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, Prof. Fr. Sebastian George, Director, XLRI Jamshedpur, Prof. Vinita S. Sahay, Director, IIM Bodhgaya, Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, Director, IIIT Ranchi on the topic of “The Future of Work: Skills for a Digitized Business Environment.”

The panelists discussed how business schools and management programs must innovate and redesign curricula to remain relevant and foster a future-ready workforce in this digitalized environment.

A second-panel discussion was held on the evening of December 4 on the topic “Reimagining the Future of Operations for Resilience and Sustainability in a Digital World.”.

The panelists for this discussion included Prof. Gal Raz, Ivey Business School, Western University; Prof. Debjit Roy, IIM Ahmedabad; Prof. Rupesh Pati, IIM Kozhikode; Prof. Ravi Shankar, DOMS, IIT Delhi; Prof. Sajeev Abraham, SPJIMR.

Doctoral colloquium fosters academic excellence

On the first day, the conference also hosted a doctoral colloquium to encourage doctoral scholars to engage in robust academic discussions.

The program started in the morning with a moderated panel discussion on “Succeeding Internationally: Perspective of scholars from India,” where Prof. Rachna Shah, Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, USA, Prof. Debjit Roy, IIM Ahmedabad, India, and Prof. Sriram Narayanan, Michigan State University, USA presented their views on how to excel in research in the international platform.

The colloquium continued after the directors’ panel session with a workshop on “How to write a high-quality OM research paper?” by Prof. Gal Raz, Prof. Rachna Shah, and Prof. Bala Shetty.

The doctoral colloquium also hosted the presentation of three papers selected for the best paper award.

In the upcoming two days, IIM Ranchi will host article presentations from more than 300 participants from over 21 countries in 29 track sessions.

The entire conference is expertly managed by the core organizing committee, comprising esteemed faculty members of IIM Ranchi.
