Dhanbad, March 25: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has received a generous donation of $1.25 lakh (approximately ₹1 crore) from alumnus Dr. Mihir Kumar Sinha to establish the Centenary Lecture Series in honor of his parents.
The lecture series, named the Dr. Abanish Chandra and Binapani Sinha Memorial Lectures on Humanities, Science, and Technology, will be a part of the institute’s centenary celebration initiative.
MoU Signed for Lecture Series Implementation
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Dr. Mihir Kumar Sinha (1966 batch, Petroleum Engineering) and the IIT ISM Alumni Association of North America (ISMAANA) to formalize the initiative.

The signing ceremony was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM); Prof. Dheeraj Kumar; Prof. R.M. Bhattacharjee, Dean (International Relations and Alumni Affairs); Prof. Rajni Singh, Dean (Corporate Communications); Prof. Rajiv Upadhyay, Faculty In-Charge, Alumni Affairs; Prabodh Pandey, Registrar, IIT ISM; and Mritunjay Sharma, Assistant Registrar, International Relations and Alumni Affairs.
Lecture Series Management and Execution
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and management of the lecture series, including the administration and investment of the endowed funds.
ISMAANA will not be involved in managing or investing the funds once they are transferred to the institute. The series aims to provide students, faculty, staff, and invited guests an opportunity to engage with renowned scholars, thought leaders, and experts across various disciplines.

Global Experts to Deliver Keynote Lectures
As per the MoU, a Nobel Laureate or an internationally recognized speaker will be invited each year to deliver a keynote lecture at the institute.
Expressing his gratitude for the generous contribution, Prof. Sukumar Mishra emphasized that the initiative would play a crucial role in broadening intellectual horizons and fostering interdisciplinary learning at IIT (ISM).
