Dhanbad, March 25: Assistant Labour Commissioner of Dhanbad, Praveen Kumar, successfully ensured the payment of ₹3.54 lakh in overdue wages for eight workers.

Workers’ Complaints Against YAMI

The affected workers had been awaiting their wages for years from Young Action for Mass India (YAMI), a private company based in Housing Colony.

Frustrated by the prolonged delay, they lodged a complaint with the labour department against the company’s secretary, Ravi Prakash, seeking justice for their unpaid salaries.

Company Agrees to Pay Following Legal Warning

Following the complaint, the Assistant Labour Commissioner summoned company representatives and the complainant workers for a hearing. YAMI’s manager, Thirth Raj Thakur, appeared on behalf of the company, while all eight workers were also present.

During negotiations, the company initially hesitated to clear the pending wages. However, after being informed that a case could be filed under the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, which carries fines and possible imprisonment for the employer, the company agreed to pay the dues immediately.

Breakdown of Workers’ Dues

The total outstanding amount of ₹3.54 lakh was cleared on the spot through cheques. Among the workers, Gaurav had the highest due of ₹85,651, followed by Puja Rani Mahto with ₹65,575 and Ajay Kumar with ₹59,268.

Saksham Chandra and Ashish Abhishek were owed ₹44,134 and ₹40,961, respectively, while Soni Priya had pending wages of ₹32,018. Prasant Rawani and Tikait Kumar Saw had smaller dues of ₹19,000 and ₹8,308, respectively.
