THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Daltonganj, March 25: Huge water bodies under the limits of the Medininagar Municipal Corporation (MMC) have got a new lease of life. It has shed off its decaying look. It looks rejuvenated and smart. Its choking look is gone.

How this has happened, has a very different tale here altogether. The summer of 2024 was the worst. These water bodies had shrunk. Its larger expanse had dried like a brick. Everyone had thought these water bodies would go extinct.
But these water bodies have sprung up like a fresh and gorgeous water body. It is neat and clean. It’s quite a promising water body now. It does not present any withering look.

The Team Behind the Revival
And the man who did this ‘Kaya Kalap’ (makeover) is none but the City Commissioner Md Jawed Husaain, an IAS officer.

It’s Jawed (popular by his first name) and his team having officials like Satish Kumar, Samita Bhagat and other able-bodied fellows who made an untiring effort to revive and rejuvenate the dying and decaying water bodies.
Speaking to the Jharkhand Story correspondent today Jawed said, “We had seen these water bodies sighing in 2024 summer. We knew these water bodies needed immediate caressing. My team did the job.”

Seven such water bodies now wear a new look. It’s their journey from decay to vibrancy.
The water bodies clog on two counts. These are slush and silt. Jawed said, “We got these two excavated. Once silt and slush are taken out, the water bodies swing into life.”
Addressing the Issue of Roadside Hand Pumps
Water bodies are well taken care of but what about the ageing roadside hand pumps which are generations old? There are hand pumps which are a history in themselves.
On being asked about the decaying roadside hand pumps, Jawed said, “We are first ascertaining the density of the underground water table. If it is healthy then we are setting up jal minar there with a tap on it.”

Innovative and Cost-Effective Solutions
Jal Minar must be an expensive affair to which Jawed said, “We used Jugaar Technology. It came far cheaper than we had expected.”
It’s learnt that the MMC has taken up the water mechanism of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department at Belwatika that caters to the need of drinking water in the households falling in the MMC limits to which the City Commissioner said, “Yes. The MMC is now managing it. The tap water reaches 9,000 households. There are still larger areas uncovered. We are determined to reach drinking water there.”

Water Availability in Scarce Regions
Quality of drinking water is to be ensured. It has to be potable by all means. Jawed conceded that there may come up some issues which the MMC will tide over.
To a query that areas like Abadganj and Nimia are chronically water-starved ones where a glass of water in peak summer is a luxury Jawed said, “We are seized with the issue. We plan to have jal minars there depending on the conditions of the underground water.”
