Ranchi, Sept 24: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad celebrated Seva Parv 2025 at Santosh College of Teacher’s Training & Education, Ranchi. The event was organized by the Jharkhand EIACP Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Government of Jharkhand, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT ISM.

The day-long programme focused on environmental protection, Mission LiFE, and Swachhata initiatives, engaging youth and stakeholders in community-driven action. Around 250 students, faculty members, officials, and volunteers participated in a series of activities.

Chief Guest and Key Speakers Highlight Sustainability

Dr. Vijay Shankar Dubey, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), was the chief guest and emphasized sustainable practices at both personal and institutional levels.

Prof. Vipin Kumar from the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT ISM, spoke on technological advancements in waste management, highlighting the challenges and opportunities. He stressed innovation and responsible approaches to treating waste as a resource.

Youth Engagement and Educational Activities

The programme began with a welcome address by Hemant Kumar, Assistant Professor, while Dr. Rashmi, Director of Santosh College, highlighted the crucial role of youth in driving environmental change.

A quiz on Swachhata and waste management was conducted by Bishwajit Das, Programme Officer, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT ISM Dhanbad, engaging students in interactive learning. The Mission LiFE pledge was administered by Pankaj Kumar, Information Officer, Jharkhand EIACP (PC-HUB).

Plantation and Cleanliness Drives Reinforce ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’

As part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, 15 saplings were planted, followed by a cleanliness drive that collected five bags of waste. These activities reinforced the spirit of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Anita Mishra, faculty at Santosh College, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and organizers.
