IIT-ISM Dhanbad launches training program for NLC India graduate trainees

Dhanbad, August 22: The Department of Mining Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has launched a two-week specialized mining domain training program for Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) of NLC India Ltd.

The program aims to build advanced technical expertise and strengthen the professional capabilities of young engineers through industry-focused learning.

The inaugural session was attended by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, as the chief guest. Deputy Director Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Prof. Keka Ojha, Dean of the Continuing Education Program, Prof. B.S. Choudhary, Head of Mining Engineering, along with course coordinators Prof. D.P. Mishra and Prof. Ankush Galav, were also present on the occasion.

Comprehensive Curriculum with Industry Focus

According to the course coordinators, the training has been designed to cover a wide range of advanced and industry-relevant topics.

The modules include Advanced Mining Technologies and Industry 4.0, Environmental Excellence and Sustainability, Advanced Safety Systems and Risk Management, Modern Exploration and Reserve Management, Smart Mining Operations, Green Mining Technologies, Digital Innovation in Mining, Innovation Projects and Advanced Project Management, Leadership and Professional Growth, Modern Regulatory Compliance and CSR Practices, and Strategic Mining Business Management.

In addition to classroom sessions, participants will undertake mine visits and guided tours of IIT (ISM)’s state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities. These sessions are expected to provide hands-on exposure and practical insights into real-world mining practices.

Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration

Officials emphasized that the initiative highlights IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s commitment to enhancing industry-academia collaboration, capacity building, and skill development in the mining sector.

The program is aimed at equipping the next generation of mining professionals with not only advanced technical knowledge but also leadership skills necessary for sustainable and modern mining practices.
