IIT ISM Dhanbad organizes lecture on ‘Environmental Governance and Sustainability’

Dhanbad, April 1: The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE) at IIT ISM Dhanbad, in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers India (IEI), Dhanbad chapter, organized a lecture-cum-interaction session on “Environmental Governance and Sustainability.” The event was part of IIT ISM Dhanbad’s centenary celebrations.

The session saw participation from over 80 research scholars, faculty members, students, and professionals from esteemed organizations across the country, including members of IEI, as well as officials from Tata Steel and Coal India Limited (CIL).

Gargi Ghosh, Advisor at the British Standards Institution (BSI) India, and Ishan Mehrotra, Manager of Sustainability at BSI India, were the chief speakers for the event.

Addressing the gathering, Gargi Ghosh provided an overview of British Standards and their critical role in advancing sustainability through globally recognized standards and solutions. She highlighted the significance of ISO certifications in promoting sustainable business practices and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Joining the session virtually, Ishan Mehrotra delivered an insightful lecture on the global risk landscape, advocating for a shift in organizational ideologies from profit-driven models to responsible business practices. He emphasized the need for robust environmental governance, the implementation of international standards, and the transformative impact of ISO certifications in achieving sustainable growth.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Alok Sinha, Head of the Department of ESE and Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT ISM. Prof. Biswajit Paul, from the Department of ESE and Secretary of IEI, Dhanbad chapter, introduced the distinguished keynote speakers to the participants.

The session was organized under the guidance of Prof. Alok Sinha, Prof. Biswajit Paul, and Prof. Suresh Pandian E., Associate Professor, Department of ESE & Co-Coordinator, EIACP, IIT ISM.

Additionally, Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, and Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT ISM, also provided valuable guidance for the event.
