Jamshedpur, May 5: The state is expected to experience thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds today, as per the latest weather advisory.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms at isolated places across the state, excluding the north-western region.

Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph may accompany the thunderstorm activity, posing potential risks to life and property.

Meteorological experts attribute the unstable weather conditions to the formation of a north-south trough and associated cyclonic circulations over different regions of the country.
A north-south trough has formed, extending from a cyclonic circulation over the northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh, passing through coastal Odisha. This system is situated at approximately 0.9 Km above mean sea level.

In addition, a second trough is currently active, extending from a cyclonic circulation over the central parts of south Uttar Pradesh to southern Tamil Nadu. This system passes through Madhya Pradesh, northern parts of Marathwada, and Interior Karnataka, and is also situated at about 0.9 Km above mean sea level.
These troughs are contributing to the moisture incursion and atmospheric instability, leading to the likelihood of localized thunderstorms.

People living in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, avoid open fields during lightning activity, and secure loose objects that might be affected by gusty winds.
The north-western part of the state, however, is expected to remain largely unaffected by this system, with no significant thunderstorm activity anticipated.
The IMD will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates.
